Tom's of Maine Natural Powder Antiperspirant Deodorant

Tom's of Maine Natural Powder Antiperspirant Deodorant has been a great first step on my journey of discovering natural deodorants and what they can do for my body. I chose the Natural Powder antiperspirant simply because that’s what my local Walmart had available at the time, but I am also interested in trying out the Fresh Meadow scent next time. I did choose antiperspirant over their aluminum-free deodorant because as much I would like to say I don’t sweat, that couldn't be further from the truth.

What’s great is that Tom’s provides both options and is up-front about their ingredients. If you need to learn more, Tom’s offers detailed descriptions of every ingredient (explore here) and informative blog posts (read blog here).

Above all, I need that wetness protection when running around chasing preschoolers all day. I’m not sure about the whole 24 hours of wetness-protection, but I do know it withstands a long work day and lots of stressors without any embarrassing underarm wet spots or stinkies. I don’t mind the baby powder fragrance and only a fraction of scent translates to your underarm, leaving it barely noticeable. Plus, I like using fragrance mists, so I don’t mind that this is subtle. The deodorant swipes clear on skin and I haven’t noticed any transfer of product to the undersides of my sleeves.

I gave myself an entire week and then some days of trying this out, since there can be some transition time necessary when switching to a natural deodorant. I felt that this scent worked with my body’s chemistry and was effective at stopping any odors. However, I’d like to pick up some Lavanila Healthy Underarm Detox Mask before I completely switch over and give my underarms a clean slate.

Best of all, Tom’s of Maine products are made cruelty-free with no artificial fragrances or preservatives and no animal ingredients. Furthermore, their packaging is 100% recyclable through Terracycle to prevent adding to landfills, which I love. Tom's also gives back by encouraging employees to use 5% of their paid work time volunteering, and donating 10% of profits to nonprofits every year.

Have you made the switch to natural deodorants? If so, what brand do you use? Feel free to leave your thoughts below!

That's Tasty Organic Microgreens

That’s Tasty Organic Microgreens are the perfect garnish for a variety of dishes. That’s Tasty offer a variety of flavors such as Italian Inspired, All‐American, Mexican Fiesta, Asian Zing, and Veggie Blend. Each blend is made up of little leafy greens that pack an excellent taste, texture and visual appeal into your meals. I picked up the Veggie Blend and Mexican Fiesta blend to complement our planned meals for the week.

We first tried the Mexican Fiesta blend with tacos and they were very delicious and unlike what we traditionally do. The fiesta blend consisted of purple kohlrabi, radish, and cilantro, all organically grown and harvested here in America. In my household we rarely eat beef, so we substitute with ground chicken that we locally purchase and season it. Typically, we top our tacos with lettuce, tomato, cheese and taco sauce, but decided to try the microgreens instead of lettuce. The powerful taste of the cilantro made that a much healthier option by allowing us to skip the taco sauce. I personally loved the texture, and overall it was my favorite of the two blends. I could see adding these as toppings to any Mexican dish from burritos to fajitas, or even lightly garnishing enchiladas.

Next, we tried was the Veggie Blend, which consisted of pea shoots, broccoli, amaranth and kale for a classic taste that could go with any meal. The texture, taste and smell were that of earthy greens that my boyfriend said reminded him of grass. However, I loved the bold taste and felt it gave our veggie burgers that extra flavor they've been missing. I found other uses with this blend by making a salad, garnishing soup, adding to chicken or to wrap sandwiches.

Overall, I did find that these were somewhat expensive, and only being a household of two, we would need to plan our meals carefully in order not to waste them. Just like with any fresh green, these have a short shelf life and expire fairly quickly. For example, if you are planning to use these just for one meal it would be a waste, as even with our taco dinner consisting of 4-5 tacos we only used about 25% of the product. However, with meal preparation for the week, we were easily able to get creative and put each blend to good use, not only boosting the taste of our meals but finding ways to eat healthier.

Seventh Generation Free & Clear Baby Sample Kit

Salutations Cuppies,

Around the same time I received three samples of Free & Clear laundry detergent, I also received a fun little baby sample kit from Seventh Generation to give my honest opinion.

In my life I have pursued a career and education with children for six years plus I have learned a lot about the products that mothers and caregivers alike care about for their little ones. Learning more about Seventh Generation, I am excited to pass this information along and also keep in mind for when I am ready to start a family of my own.

The packaging of each of the three products I received are incredibly adorable and would definitely be something that would catch my eye. Although the packaging is adorable, it’s so much more than that. I was glad to learn about how each product is made, and how they not only keep your baby in mind, but also the parents and the environment.

The Free & Clear diaper is made for a baby’s sensitive skin, ultra-absorbent and contains zero percent lotions or fragrances. I received two pairs of size 1 diapers, and out the bag they are noticeably soft inside and out. I like the fact that the quilted liner inside expands with more surface area to catch everything. The liner is evidently well thought out with a quilted design and softer material for newborns up to size 2, and is also made with unbleached cotton. The tabs are large enough and easy to use. The best feature, in my opinion, is that each diaper is made with sustainable sourced materials (wood fluff pulp) meaning it’s natural, renewable and biodegradable. Thinking about how many diapers get dumped into a landfills in a year this is a step in the right direction to reduce waste.

I pleasantly surprised that the texture was silky smooth and great for a baby’s sensitive skin, and it spreads very easily. Just using a small dime size goes a long way and instantly my hand felt cool, hydrated and soft to touch. There is a very faint scent of coconut from the organic coconut oil. It’s made from sustainable ingredients that are plant-based so it’s great it contains NO sulfates, phthalates, parabens, formaldehyde donors, mineral oil or petrolatum. Overall, a lightweight, lightly scented moisturizer from a trusted brand.

I can’t even count how many wipes I have used in a day at the daycare, so I know the importance of how a good wipe handles any situation, from an unfortunate blowout to an icky nose. These wipes are labeled fragrance free and I truly don’t smell anything. I think it is unnecessary for wipes to have a fragrance anyways because it just adds useless chemicals. These are made for sensitive skin like most products from Seventh Generation. It’s very important to think about the ingredients because every time you wipe you are essentially applying it directly onto your baby’s delicate skin. What’s great about Seventh Generation, unlike other major brands, is that it does not contain Phenoxyethanol (a chemical compound that can be an irritant to the skin). With that said, it also removes other harmful chemicals such as alcohol and parabens. Out of the packaging the wipes are definitely thicker than most I have used, but I love the fact that you are able to clean up more with a single wipe and still have the softness factor.

Overall, I'm very satisfied and thankful try out the sample pack I received from Generation Good. It’s a brand that I now trust and will turn to when I do have little bundles of my own someday. I love the transparency and the effort Seventh Generation gives to its products, consumers and production of the materials with sustainability and safeness in mind.
