Cuppy Cakes: SEVIZ Retro Bluetooth Wooden Speaker

Turn it up with SEVIZ Retro Bluetooth Wooden Speaker! First of all, the retro, mid-century wood grain aesthetic of the speaker is really cool and makes a great addition to my office decor. A top slot integrated into the top of the speaker will probably fit most phones and tablets, however if you have a large case on either of these devices it won’t fit; my iPhone has an Otterbox Defender on it that’s too thicc, but that’s no problem.

The Bluetooth range is remarkable at a stated 10 meters, but in my testing I was able to walk at least 15 meters away and past several walls before there was any signal loss at all. One drawback of the form-over-function design is that it’s not weatherproof, but it’s rare that we expose any of our speakers to the elements, so that’s not a significant issue.

The sound quality is relatively good, although it's heavily tuned toward bass so the mid and high tones can sound a little bit tinny by comparison. An integrated microphone does a great job picking up my voice, so it’s great for taking calls as well. The volume output is really impressive for such a small speaker (rated at 20W max), since it can get loud enough to be heard clearly all the way across our home. There’s even a helpful audio tone when you reach max volume!

I appreciate that it has SD card, USB, and 3.5mm auxiliary inputs in addition to the Bluetooth capability so that I can easily swap between all the different devices we have around for streaming and playing downloaded music. The Bluetooth pairing and input changes are all fast and seamless, too, so it’s been super-convenient compared to some other wireless speakers that we use around the house. All that said, the included FM tuner unfortunately doesn’t work for us since it can’t pick up any stations, but we almost never listen to over-the-air radio anyhow.

It’s powered by a large, 1800mAh battery that has a 4-5 hour play time, including a power-saving feature that shuts down the device after 5 minutes without Bluetooth connection or audio input. Charging is also decently quick at just 2 hours via the included 5V micro USB cable, which conveniently has a USB-A connection on the charger side that’s compatible with almost any wall charger or battery pack. At just under $20 from Amazon, this speaker is an excellent value proposition and I’d recommend it to anyone who’s searching for some budget-friendly wireless audio!
