Kaboom Shower, Tub & Tile Cleaner

Kaboom with Oxi Clean works hard to clean tough stains throughout your home so you don’t have to. It uses tiny micro-bubbles that infiltrate tough stains and removes them with the swipe of your sponge.

Kaboom is effective cleaning up soap scum, calcium, stains, and grease on a huge variety of surfaces, including your shower, tub, grout, tile, sinks, and more. Getting great results from this cleaner is really simple, just twist the nozzle on, spray, and wipe away with a sponge, cloth, or brush.

I tried this out on my shower for a direct comparison, since the formula has been revised and I have cleaned my bathroom with the old formula Kaboom in the past. The tub, shower walls, and plumbing fixtures all came out sparkling clean, and there was a very clean scent to everything after the room aired out a bit.

However, I’m really not sure whether the formula change was very significant, since it’s not noticeably better than the old one, and the ingredients list and warnings don’t really seem to indicate that it was made any safer. The strong fumes while spraying it in a confined area were also alarming to me, and make me hesitant to use it much in the future.

Old (Left) / New (Right)

It’s rated C (moderate concern) on the Environmental Working Group, but I’m not sure if that includes the “New Formula.” The EWG is a great resource for consumers wanting to know what’s in their everyday products.
The toxicity of cleaners like this is exactly the reason I have switched toward all-natural products over the past few years, and I think the new formula should have gone in that direction.

Ultimately, I do think Kaboom is exceptionally good at eliminating really hard-to-remove stains and grime, but I think I’ll be sure to continue use it sparingly, carefully, and only in more open areas with lots of fresh air. The ingredients are just too risky to justify replacing my current cleaning products with Kaboom, despite the convincing results. I’ll be keeping an eye out in the future to see if there are any further changes to it in order to make it safer and healthier.

Tampax Pure and Clean

It’s about time that larger brands start taking the initiative in creating healthier, sustainable feminine products that are not only good for our body, but the environment as well. Tampax Pure & Clean tampons are made with simple materials, such as responsibly-sourced cotton that is free of chlorine bleaching, dyes and fragrances. The main ingredients included are cotton, polyester, polypropylene and fiber finishes.

If you like Tampax Pearl tampons, you’ll love these. Essentially, they redesigned them with 90% plant-based applicators, greatly reducing the amount of plastic used. It’s a definite step in the right direction, but not entirely "pure and clean." Since polypropylene is still used in both the wrapper and 10% of the applicator, they continue to add to the plastic waste problem and tend to wash up on our shores.

Each tampon is individually wrapped and are made unscented. The box I received are regular absorbency (6-9 grams), so for the first two days I found myself going through a few more tampons, considering that these are my heaviest days. It would be great if they created a variety box containing both Regular & Super (9-12 grams) tampons to adjust with the ever-changing period flow.

Overall, I am very happy with the tampons themselves since I found them to have an easy application and great comfort. I only wish that the packaging could live up to the full pure and clean potential.
