Nasoya Toss’ables Balsamic Vinaigrette

This chance to try out the brand-new Nasoya Toss'ables came at just the right time, since I'm changing my diet and have been on the lookout for healthy grab-and-go lunch alternatives. Toss’ables are pre-seasoned and baked tofu cubes that can be added straight to any dish you want as a meat replacement, from salad to pasta and more.

Keep in mind that they’re also vegan, gluten-free, certified organic, have no preservatives or cholesterol, and are still packed with 14 grams of protein per serving. There are two varieties available right now, Balsamic Vinaigrette or Garlic and Herb, but I was only able to find the vinaigrette in stock at my local grocery store.

The first dish I tried out with Toss’ables was a quick salad, by mixing them in with some organic power greens: kale, spinach, and chard. I found that the seasoning was spot on and very flavorful, especially if you already like the taste of Balsamic vinegar. I felt that other than adding baby tomatoes and possibly carrot shavings, the salad needed no dressing since the cubes were already so powerfully flavored. I’d say the cubes are just the right size, and yes it tastes like all other tofu and has the usual spongey texture.

Next, I decided to add the Toss’ables to some home-made ramen with a Ocean’s Halo seaweed-based broth. Since I typically throw chicken into the mix, I decided to give the Balsamic cubes a go in the broth. I thought it was a nice touch, but as far as flavoring goes it didn’t work well and I thought the Garlic & Herb would have fared better.

In the end, I really think that the Balsamic Vinaigrette flavor just wasn’t for me, and I’d have a better experience if I were able to try out the Garlic and Herb style. Tofu is an undeniably healthy source of protein, and I love that Nasoya offers it organic and preservative-free, so I can’t wait to try the second flavor and incorporate it in some new dishes.
